Perry, Ted - Conservation, Land, Nature, Property
"How can you buy or sell the sky, the warmth of the land? The idea is strange to us. If we do not own the freshness of the air and the sparkle of the water, how can you buy them? Every part of the earth is sacred to my people."
- from Home (1972)
- Ted Perry (American screenwriter and film scholar)
Note: This quote is often mistakenly attributed to Chief Seattle, a Native American leader of the Suquamish and Duwamish tribes. It was actually part of a speech written by Perry for the 1972 documentary Home, the producers of which allegedly misrepresented the source of the quote in the film's credits.
